U Tun Myat

Biographical Details

U Tun Myat was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors in July 2024. He joined Yoma Bank in 2017 and served as an Independent Non-executive Director. Before his time at Yoma Bank, U Tun Myat served as the United Nations (UN) Security Coordinator from 2002 to 2004 and as the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator based in Baghdad, Iraq from 2000 to 2002. He also worked at the World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome for 22 years from 1978-2000 and held D2 director-level positions, including Director of Logistics and Director of External Relations.

Before his international service at UN and WFP, U Tun Myat was the Head of the Legal and Insurance Department at Myanmar Five Star Line, where he served for 15 years. His early career included roles as a Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Transport and Communications and as a part-time lecturer in the Law Department at the University of Yangon from 1974 to 1978.  His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and a Bachelor of Laws (B.L) from the University of Yangon, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) from the Chartered Insurance Institute in London, and a Master of Laws (LLM) from King’s College, University of London.
