This includes community health education programme as well as donation of medical supplies that can benefit up to 27,000 villagers across the Northern State.

Myanmar/Yangon – September 24, 2020 –Yoma Bank kicked off its new CSR initiative in Northern Shan State aiming to contribute towards the wellbeing of the wider communities in the region. This initiative includes community health education programme as well as donation of medical supplies that will help improve access to the health care services in the region. The programme will cover 53 village tracts located in Northern Townships such as Lashio, Mongyai, Tangyan, Namtu, Kyaukme, Kutkai and Namhkan and 27,000 villagers can be benefitted from it. This new initiative will help local communities with basic health needs that will ignite positive impact on the wellbeing of the communities.

The ongoing COVID-19 situation makes the vulnerable communities in remote areas prone to both the pandemic and the other basic health issues. To cushion the remote communities from the effects of the current situation and to help vulnerable families receive health care services, Yoma Bank will work together with 70 health workers to provide consistent COVID-19 education to the villagers. The programme includes announcing COVID-19 awareness audio clips in local languages through loudspeakers. The audio clips will include basic COVID-19 knowledge such as what COVID-19 is, what the symptoms are and how to prevent from transmission, etc. This will help keep people informed about the preventions by providing access to accurate information and keep the communities connected in light of the crisis. 

Yoma Bank will also donate medical supplies to these 70 health workers to accelerate their services in the region. The donation of medical supplies includes provision of basic medical supplies such as thermometer, vitamins, domestic medicines, stationery, backpacks, and tools for healthcare workers and hygiene kits (soap, hand sanitizer, nail clippers).

We believe distribution of resources needed will also help the most vulnerable to get through the pandemic.”  

Yoma Bank has been committed in giving back to the communities it serves. Throughout its 27 years of service, Yoma Bank has carried out different philanthropic activities as well as financial inclusions, women empowerment, and people development programmes to contribute positive impacts in socioeconomic environment. In July 2020, Yoma Bank also donated 6,000 design-your-own masks and school supplies for under-resourced students in Daing Su and Nyang Villages in Hlaing Thar Yar Township to support healthy and safe back to school preparation amid COVID-19.
